Igniter
Vishay's electro-pyrotechnic initiator thin film chip (EPIC) resistor is based on Ta2N thin film technology deposited on a
specifically prepared ceramic substrate for optimized dissipation purposes. The principle of EPIC is to convert electrical
energy into heat energy in a precise electro-thermal profile for the purpose of initiating a series of pyrotechnic events
in a controlled energetic reaction. The massive electro-pyrotechnic initiator chip (MEPIC) resistor features a standard case
geometry (SMD) that enables the implementation of assembly processes commonly used in the electronic component industry (pick
and place, reflow soldering on a flat PCB used as a header). MEPIC provides an alternative to bridge wire technology, ensuring
at least the same level of performances while providing cost-efficient assembly process and initiator design alternatives.
